Thanksgiving with Spikes

Several members of Iron Spikes, as well as their family and friends, spent Thanksgiving braving the cold and enjoying the Iron Spikes tailgate before the big game. Those in attendance were treated to fried turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy, thanks to the hard work of our Spirit officer Jake Thompson. Despite the loss to our rival Aggies, everyone had a great time supporting UT and spending the holiday with their Spikes "family".

Enjoying the holiday...

...but trying to stay warm.

The aftermath of the cooking.

Game time!

Great job Jake on cooking a delicious Turkey Day feast!

Baseball Clinic

The Texas Iron Spikes recently had their annual baseball clinic for youths in the surrounding Austin area at Disch-Faulk Field. Hundreds of kids came out, eager to learn about the game of baseball and have a good time! Also, we would like to say thank you to our Service Officer, Saunders Lin, for organizing the clinic; both Spikes and the kids all appreciate the hard work that he put in to make that day a success.

Caleb Jameson passing on his base-running expertise.

Rookie Ryan Wilhelms showing the kids how to properly grip a bat.

Blake Barber teaching how to swing for the fences!

Thanks so much Saunders for all your hard work!

Date Skate!

This past Thursday the Iron Spikes and dates held our date skate event. The theme was 70's/80's, and, as you can tell, everyone had a very groovy time.

Steven, Pat, and Taylor: looking fly, as always.

Cookie, in his traditional date skate uniform. You've never seen a dinosaur skate so well.

Ready, Set...

...GO!

Dates!

Congratulations to Adiel Escobedo for making Texas 4,000!

This past week, Adiel was selected for Texas 4,000. This is a huge honor, as Adiel will be riding a bike from Austin to Anchorage, Alaska in the summer of 2012 to help raise money and awareness for cancer. Texas 4,000 is the longest charity ride in the world.

Spikes of the Week (11/11-11/18)

This weeks Spikes of the Week were:

1&2) Austin Wozniak and Stephen Hopkins:

Both Austin and Stephen assisted the Texas Orange Jackets by bringing out the Spikes' grill and cooking for their fundraiser. Also, both men have put a tremendous amount of work this semester into planning our annual softball tournament benefitting the Special Olympics of Texas. Thanks to their hard work, we now have both a venue and a date; the tournament will take place on 4/30/2011

3) Adiel Escobedo:

This past week the Texas Iron Spikes hosted our annual youth baseball clinic. Adiel went above and beyond in making sure this night was a success, and it was.

GREAT JOB GUYS!
